Register in Advance Voter Registration Campaign Aims for More Than 50,000 New Voters in November

(ARA) - On the playing field, NFL Running Back Stephen Davis is determined to let nothing get between him and the end zone. It's what makes him good for his team, the Carolina Panthers, and a hero to his fans. Davis brings that same determination to his efforts to get the nation's unregistered voting age population registered to vote -- by telling citizens to let nothing stand between them and the ballot on Election Day.

It takes this level of tenacity to bring more than 50,000 new voters to the nation's polls in November. That's what Advance America Cash Advance Centers, Inc., and seven non-profit organizations intend to do through Register in Advance, a nationwide non-partisan voter registration campaign. From July 13 through September 18, voter registration forms and instructions will be available at over 2,000 Advance America locations in 29 states.

As the national spokesperson for Register in Advance, Davis says that the campaign makes it easier than ever to become a registered voter. "For citizens who say they don't have the time to register or that other things take priority over registering, Register in Advance leaves no excuses for being left behind in the process of democracy." According to U.S. Census data, approximately 57 million citizens are not registered to vote. The League of Women Voters, a Register in Advance partner organization, contends that many citizens simply don't know how to register, are intimidated by the voting process or don't believe their vote will make a difference.

"Register in Advance will show citizens that registering to vote is a simple process," said League president Kay J. Maxwell. "Voting is the first step to becoming an empowered and active citizen who makes a difference in your community."

Other nonprofit organizations leading the initiative with Advance America are the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the National Urban League, the Georgia Coalition for the People's Agenda, People for the American Way Foundation, the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials Educational Fund (NALEO Educational Fund), and the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP).

Advance America CEO Billy Webster said that providing the resources for this voter registration initiative is one of the most important contributions his corporation can make to empower the communities in which it does business. "There is no better way for Advance America to demonstrate our dedication to the communities we serve than to help provide access to the single most valuable tool of democracy -- the right to vote," said Webster. "We hope that citizens will take advantage of this opportunity to get the information they need to stand up and be counted this election year."
